Last week we covered how to make airbrush cleaning fluid to save money. This week we’ll cover how to clean your airbrush.
When should you clean your airbrush?
For me, I like to do a full cleaning at the end of my airbrushing session. In between color changes I will very quickly pour in some cleaner, use a disposable plastic brush to make sure all the paint is gone. Then spray it all out in a spray out pot.
For this post I’ll be using my Ultimate Modeling Products Apex airbrush. The airbrush is excellent and made by Badger. Seriously, this thing is almost bullet proof. I’ve been using mine for a long time.
Step 1: remove the airbrush from air hose line

Step 2: Loosen the chuck screw holding the needle in
Step 3: Pull the need aft about 1 inch
Step 4: Unscrew the nozzle and remove

Step 5: Push needle forward out the front of the airbrush
Step 6: Use q-ip to get all paint off of the needle

Step 7: Use scrubbing brushes to clean inside of nozzle
Step 8: Re-assemble!
That’s it, this fixes 99% of problems caused by not cleaning your air brush. Note: about one time a year I’ll put some airbrush lube in the brush, it’s very few and far between.
