Airbrush Cleaner

I realize that I’ve not gone over some of my cost saving techniques yet. There are tons of things in modelling that if it’s marketed to modellers, then they charge 500% the price they should. Best example is of 2ml pipettes. On eBay you can get a pack of 200 pipettes for about $9USD delivered. Though, if you visit a hobby store, they’ll charge $4USD for 7 pipettes.

Personally, I use a lot of airbrush cleaner. It’s my go to tool for painting. Downside is you must clean it out often or it will stop working for you. Originally I used Ultimate Modelling Products airbrush cleaner. It did the job. However, they’re UK based and shipping takes a long time. Their US reseller, Hobbyworld-USA is usually sold out of the airbrush cleaner. What is a modeler to do?

Experiment!

That’s right, I spent some time experimenting with making my own airbrush cleaner. I usually use acrylics, so this cleaner is geared towards that. For any enamels, I’ll use the manufacturers cleaner.

BOSS Airbrush Cleaner Mix:
-4oz 91% Isopropyl alcohol
-4oz Winter Windshield Cleaner
-1-2 drops of colorless, scentless dish soap

That’s it, it’s handy to have it in a bottle that you can squeeze to pay out the cleaner.
